I've arrived....!
Yesterday afternoon I arrived safe and sound in the land of South Africa! I'll be here for around 3 months so I'll try and keep you all updated semi-regularly! I'm by no means a 'blogger" so don't expect amazing things haha but it just seemed the easiest way to update people who are interested and are praying for me :) So it will probably just be random updates about what I've been up to here, as and when I remember!
I left the UK on Friday afternoon and flew to Istanbul for a short lay over. I then had a 12 hour flight to Durban. Perhaps recieving a complimentary eye mask, pair of socks, slippers, toothbrush and lip balm was the highlight (thanks to Turkish Airlines!)
Once I'd arrived in Durban I was picked up by Gavin, and then traveled about an hour and a half to a town called Empangeni, where I will be staying for the next 3 months.
I'm staying with a couple called Gavin and Elaine, who have set up and run MusawenKosi Ministries (meaning God's grace). Gavin is also a doctor at the local hospital. I'm sure I'll update you more on this as I learn more about their ministry and projects.
Today I attended the local church with them and also helped pick up leftover food donated by the local Woolworths (quite different to the dearly loved late Woolworths of the UK!) for the children's home.
There are also two German volunteers (Sophie and Merle), here at the moment but they will only be here for a few more weeks. So it will be really great to see what they do and find my feet whilst they are here.
Tomorrow I will be seeing the children's home, helping with shopping and starting to get stuck into the work!
Thank you for your prayers, please continue to pray that I would settle in well, find my feet and be protected whilst I'm here.
Blessings
